Dry needling, Hobart

Dry needling, included in your physio.

One of the hands-on tools our physios use, at no extra cost.

Your physio uses it where your assessment shows it will help, always alongside movement and strength work. It is not acupuncture, and it is never the whole treatment.

The reframe

Needling is a tool, not the treatment. We use it to get you moving and loading, then the strength work does the rest.

What it is

One hands-on tool among several.

Dry needling uses a fine, solid needle placed into muscle that is tight, sensitive or guarding. It sits alongside soft tissue work, joint mobilisation and taping as one of the hands-on options your physio has. It is not acupuncture: we don't work from meridians or energy points. We needle the muscle that your assessment shows is involved.

Often used for

Muscle that won't let go

Tight, guarding muscle around a sore back, hip, neck or shoulder.

Often used for

Sensitive spots

Areas that are tender to press and limit how you move.

Often used for

Getting you moving

Making the first loading work in a session more comfortable to start.

Not used for

Treatment on its own

We don't needle and send you home. It always sits inside a plan.

How it fits a session

Assess first. Needle if it helps. Then load.

Whether dry needling is used, and when, depends on your assessment and what your physio recommends. Some sessions use it, many don't.

  1. Assess

We find what's driving the problem, not just where it hurts.

  2. Explain

If needling is an option, we tell you why and what to expect, and you decide.

  3. Load

We follow it with movement and strength work, the part that builds capacity.

Common questions

Common questions about dry needling.

Do you provide dry needling or acupuncture?

Yes, we offer dry needling, not acupuncture. Your physio uses it where they think it will help, and it's included in your appointment at no extra cost.

Is dry needling included in my appointment?

Dry needling is included in your treatment where it's clinically appropriate, at no extra cost. Whether it's used in your first session depends on your assessment and what your physio recommends.

Do you offer hands-on treatment?

Yes. We use hands-on techniques such as soft tissue massage, joint mobilisations, dry needling and manual therapy alongside movement-based rehab and strength training.

What can I expect during my first physiotherapy session?

In your first session, we'll take the time to understand your story, assess your injury or concerns, and discuss your goals. We combine hands-on care with movement strategies and education so you know exactly what's driving your pain and what we'll do about it. Each plan is tailored to your needs and lifestyle.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly without a GP referral, unless your insurer or GP has specified otherwise. If you have a GP care plan (CDM or EPC), we accept it: you pay the full fee, we lodge the Medicare claim for you, and Medicare pays the rebate to you.
